We All Go Back to the Land: The Who, Why, and How of Land Acknowledgements

April 7, 2021

A conversation with author Suzanne Keeptwo

Orginally hosted by Rev. Teresa Burnett-Cole as part of the Glebe-St. James United Church and the Eastern Ontario Outaouais Regional Council's - An Educational Series of Conversations - on April 7, 2021.

Offering land acknowledgements prior to church services and other public events has become a regular practice. Some question whether it is a good idea. In this video, Suzanne Keeptwo, author of "We All Go Back to the Land", explores what makes an effective land acknowledgement.

Suzanne Keeptwo, Métis of Québec (Algonkin/French and Irish) is both an artist and professional educator who merges traditional Anishinaabe teachings and artistic expression to explore Indigenous historical truths and contemporary realities. She has worked across Canada as a professional facilitator and as a freelance writer, editor, and consultant. Her area of expertise is bridging cultural gaps of understanding between Indigenous and nonIndigenous peoples.
