Please join us this Sunday, November 24 as we celebrate Reign of Christ Sunday

November 22, 2024

We would be pleased if you would join us, either in person or on-line, as we celebrate Reign of Christ Sunday. The service starts at 10:30 am.

Today we celebrate the Reign of Christ Sunday – the last Sunday before Advent begins. We often think of Sundays like this as being ancient holidays, however, this one dates from 1925. Pope Pius XI, writing in the aftermath of World War I, stated that true peace can only be found under the Kingship of Christ as "Prince of Peace". "For Jesus Christ reigns over the minds of individuals by his teachings, in their hearts by His love, in each one's life by the living according to His law and the imitating of His example."

Rev. Dr. Teresa Burnett-Cole will lead the service. Elizabeth Elton will welcome us, and Rev. Sue Toller will offer the land acknowledgement and lead the Theme Conversation for children and adults. Alexa de Grandmont will read the scripture: John 18:33-37. Our Minister of Music, James Caswell and special guests, the Canterbury Trebles Women's Ensemble, will lead us in music and song; the anthem will be "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty / He Reigns Forever".

Here is the bulletin for the service to follow along with the words of texts, hymns, songs and prayers. You can join the service live at 10:25 am at this YouTube link; after the service ends it will be available to watch as a recording.

Also in this service we will celebrate communion so if you are participating with us from home, please prepare a cracker (or bread) and some appropriate beverage to eat and drink with us.

One of the great spiritual questions is this: What do we see when we look at other people? Do we see strangers or neighbours? Problems or possibilities? Labels or beloved children of God? The answer matters, because what we see shapes how we live.
