GSJ COVID-19 Memorial Tree

COVID-19 Memorial Tree

We remember those who have gone before us

November 1 2020 is All Saints’ Day in the Christian tradition – a day when we remember those who have gone before us. This year, with the pandemic in mind, we wanted to remember those who have died. Not only does each ribbon mark a lost life, but also a family, friends, neighbours, and caregivers who also grieve their loss.A two-foot ribbon hangs in the tree, outside our Lyon Street entrance, for every patient who has died in Ottawa. On All Saints Sunday (Nov. 1, 2020), the tree held 323 ribbons. It will be updated daily for as long as the pandemic continues.

Hear Rev. Teresa Burnett-Cole describe the project on Ottawa Morning, Nov. 3rd.

To reflect more on the subject, Rev. Teresa's message surrounding the project can be found in the recording of the GSJ livestream service from All Saints Sunday, 2020.

The pandemic continues to hit the vulnerable amongst us hard. Read more about our various outreach partners and their emergent needs, or consider donating to our GSJ outreach or COVID-19 funds using one of our donate options.

In person donations can be dropped through the mail slot on in the 650 Lyon Street South door, if you'd like to take the opportunity to also see the Memorial Tree.
