"In-Reach"

"In-Reach" & Congregational Care

 Continuing education, deepening community and caring for each other

Church remains one of the few places to connect deeply
and form intergenerational community
in our increasingly hectic world.

The GSJ motto "Reaching - Into Faith, and out to others" focuses on both the inward and outward aspects of our faith journey. "In-reach" encompasses the work GStJ does to support and build our community, enriching the life and work of the church. These include pastoral care, fellowship groups, continuing christian education or even just getting together to play scrabble. As a social-justice minded congregation, the lines between outreach and "in-reach" often blur, such as when we seek to learn more about reconciliation and are in turn are called to action.

7 ways GSJ reaches into faith
  1. Inclusive and welcoming – all faiths, races, ages, abilities, sexual genders and identities
  2. Spiritually alive community, open to all; if you cannot afford an event, contact our Minister
  3. Adult Education encourages a different way of thinking in a secular, self-centered age
  4. New approaches to Christian development for all ages, through music, drama and hands-on learning
  5. Opportunities to grow in faith through outreach and sharing;
  6. Face-to-face involvement through Women’s Intergenerational Group; Men’s and Friends Dinner, and more
  7. Learn and meditate with our labyrinth, library, the Broadview (formerly the United Church Observer) and so much more ...
  • The Women’s Intergenerational Group (WIG) provides a safe space to explore topics of contemporary interest. We meet monthly, usually on Sunday after worship over a potluck lunch, to explore subjects that frequently lead to further reflection and action. Read a bit more about the group, or check "What's Happening" to look for our next topic or event
  • The Men and their Friends of Glebe-St. James get together regularly for fellowship and community building. The gatherings are scheduled, when convenient, for the same third Wednesday evening of the month as the meetings of Council or the Steering Committee. There is usually a potluck dinner, which is shared around the table in the Art Room, and increasingly this is being followed by a presentation and discussion on a topic of general interest. Read more about the group, and check "What's Happening" to look for the next event.
    The Labyrinth painted on the floor of Fraser hall is open for GSJ and wider community use the 3rd Sunday of the month. Come and find your quiet Center! Check out this link from the Labyrinth Society to learn more about Labyrinths and Labyrinth walks in general, or read about the GSJ's story in the June 2020 Newsletter "Good News in the Glebe."  Head to "What's happening" page to find the next walk.
